Buenos Aires Police Shot Down a Thief in Lanús

A sergeant from the Buenos Aires Police shot a criminal who tried to rob his car while he was driving in Lanús Oeste with his partner. The incident took place at the intersection of 25 de Mayo and Osorio streets when the armed thief attempted to approach him.

The officer, who was in plain clothes after finishing his work shift at the verification plant in Roque Pérez, reacted quickly upon seeing the criminal's gun. He drew his service weapon and identified himself as a police officer. In the confrontation, the thief, who carried a replica, was shot in the torso and died from the wound. He was identified as Agustín Lautaro Bielli Totoro, 29 years old.

Prosecutor Martín Rodríguez from UFI number 5 of Lanús ordered the necessary investigations and the transfer of the body to the forensic morgue. He concluded that the sergeant acted in legitimate defense, and therefore did not order his detention. The case was classified as "homicide and use of a firearm."

In the words of the prosecutor: "The detention of the sergeant was not ordered as it was considered that he acted in legitimate defense."
